Welcome to Baphomart! Getting started can feel a little overwhelming, but in this guide we will walk you through the basics to launching your shop and provide you with some helpful resources on growing your shop, providing great customer service and getting your items delivered. In part three we are exploring how keywords will help customer’s match with your shop products.

Titles, categories, tags and attributes all help match your listings with shoppers specific searches. Using strong keywords in your listings create a great opportunity for your items to be shown in search results.

Categories:

Add the most specific option when you are listing, adding more specific categories will give you more opportunies to match with a seach. When you add subcategories to your listing you items are included in all the categories that subcategory is nested within. You don’t need to add tags that repeat the categories.

Attributes:

Some of your items might have different colours, patterns, materials or sizes, with attributes you can add these extra details to your listings. If you have selected attributes make sure to include any related words to the tags, you won’t need to add the attributes as they will already be included in the search listings.

Titles:

Keywords in your title can help you match with shoppers searches. Keeping a short, clear, descriptive title that leads with keywords, will be the first thing shoppers will see when browsing. You can use symbols and punctuation but try not to make the title difficult to read.

Tags:

Tags are an opportunity to help match with a shopper’s search. Keep them short and descriptive. For example “custom portrait” is stronger than “custom” and “portrait”. Keep in mind regional phrases and synonyms. Do try longer-tail tags for more specific searches. Don’t add tags in multiple languages, we translate the site depending on the user’s language option.

Keep to the root word don’t worry about plurals. Add tags that highlight how it’s made or what is unique about it. If your items is targeted at those looking for gifts or special occasions, try adding ‘gifts for boyfriend’, ‘friend gift’, ‘hen party’, or ’dinosaur themed party.’ Consider aesthetic style, time period, palette to describe your item, ‘baroque clock’, ‘typographic print’, or ‘ rustic wall hanging’. Scale could be useful to decribe the size and shape of your item, ‘miniature silver frog’ or ‘giant knitted scarf’.

Now your items are primed for being easily discovered in our listings! In our next article we help you manage your first sale…
