The Scold – Limited Edition – Lino Cut Print – Scold’s Bridal

This piece was inspired by seeing an image of a particular type of Scold’s Bridal, (a nightmare device used to punish “gossiping” women, fixed like a metal cage on the head with a metal plate at mouth level to hold the tongue down or cut it should it move). This one has an added bell on top for humiliating the “scold”, and I believe is housed in a German museum.
The woman depicted, however, is no stranger to the bridal, and is a regular “offender”. She is new to the bell model, and points at it in exasperation and loudly but stifled says the other title for this piece, which is “A f****** bell?”
Water-based black, matte ink print on white 140gsm paper, hand-hand pressed with a spoon and touched up by hand also to give it a consistent tone all over.Â

Size of the image is approx. 15 x 20 cmÂ
Size of the mount is approx. 22 x 27.5 cm
Limited edition of 15 prints of this design. Delivered mounted and wrapped in cellophane. You can carefully replace the mount for a more suitable one if you so wish, please let me know if you would just like the unmounted print.
All UK-bound items are sent 1st class delivery, signed for. Please contact me if you would prefer another method. All overseas-bound items are standard delivery, again, if you wish to have it tracked, please contact me and I will sort this out, please expect a higher postage cost for this.

All prints are wrapped in protective cellophane, with a sheet of sturdy card, then gift wrapped. I use First Class Signed For delivery by the Royal Mail for all UK items. If you are overseas and would like to purchase something from me, please feel free to send me a message and I will get investigating further in how to get work to you! A request is to please ensure that there is time enough to receive your order by checking when the Royal Mail Strike dates are.
