Westward Leading – A5 Greetings Card – Angel in a Flying Saucer
A slight detour from the Devil work I do, ’ Westward Leading is taken from the Christmas Carol “We Three Kings” and I like the idea of the figures of angels and demons actually being aliens, so the thought of an angel landing in a spaceship made me consider why anyone would be scared seeing one in Biblical times. Wouldn’t you be? In this thought, this Angel is the “Star of Wonder”, leading the three wise men to Bethlehem, at the birth of Christ.
The original linoprints they are reproduced from are available in black and white as well as hand painted, full blown colour.

26cm x 15cm x 13cm approxThe Phallus Tree is directly inspired by the marginalia created by Jeanne de Montbaston in the c.1325-1353 illustrated edition of Le Roman de la Rose, an allegorical love poem written by Guillaume de Lorris and Jean de Meun. In Jeanne’s illustration, she depicts a Nun plucking the phallus fruit from the tree and putting them in her basket. In my sculpture, the Nun is absent, but the basket remains – allowing the viewer to depict whatever creature they wish playing and plucking the dangling fruit.
