The Phallus Tree
The Phallus Tree
Air drying clay, acrylic paint, and metal.
26cm x 15cm x 13cm approxThe Phallus Tree is directly inspired by the marginalia created by Jeanne de Montbaston in the c.1325-1353 illustrated edition of Le Roman de la Rose, an allegorical love poem written by Guillaume de Lorris and Jean de Meun. In Jeanne’s illustration, she depicts a Nun plucking the phallus fruit from the tree and putting them in her basket. In my sculpture, the Nun is absent, but the basket remains – allowing the viewer to depict whatever creature they wish playing and plucking the dangling fruit. Â
Listing is for the sculpture The Phallus Tree only, any other products or props in the photos are for illustrative purposes only.
