How are Stripe payment fees calculated?

Stripe does not cost anything upfront and they only apply a simple small transaction fee on each sale you make.

Stripe payment processing fees are (as of 10th April 2023):

1.5% + £0.20 – Standard UK cards (most cards including American Express).
1.9% + £0.20 – Premium UK cards (commercial Visa/Mastercard).
3.25% + £0.20 – International cards issued outside the UK and Europe.
2.5% + £0.20 – European cards.

The sales money you receive is the total sale minus the payment processing fee:

For example, if your customer is based in EU, and their order is equal to £10 you will have a Stripe fee of 45p so will receive £9.55 or if it was £100 you have a Stripe fee of £2.70 and receive £97.30.
