How do I add a downloadable or virtual product?

You can select this when you edit the product. Downloadable products give access to a file upon purchase. Virtual products are intangible and aren’t shipped.

If you are offering digital services you will need to email the customer directly after they have made the purchase or print and post the product to them.

If you are offering such digital services you will need to register for the VAT MOSS scheme with the HMRC (this is to ensure VAT is paid correctly for digital products being sold in other countries).

Here are the steps for a vendor to create a digital product-

  1. Login to your Dashboard
  2. Navigate to Products → Click on Add New Product button from the top right.
  3. Enter the product title, price and all the common field values.

Now enable the downloadable checkbox

Select the file and manage restrictions

Name: The name field defines what the downloaded file name should be. You might name the original file to something like “new-album-updated-jan-12.zip” and you want the user to download the file as “New Album”. So this option will be useful for you to serve and organize better.

If you are serving the files from your very own site, then you can click on choose file and select. You can also serve the file from Dropbox, Google Drive or some other file hosting site you like. Just add the direct weblink to the file URL field.

Download limit: How many times the customer will be able to download the product.

Download Expiry: How many days the download link will be available.

Hit Save when done.

Note: Maximum upload file size to Baphomart server is 50 MB

Customer side

Once a customer purchases a digital file, it will appear in their customer Dashboard under the Downloads tab. Listing the remaining downloads and expiration date.
