How to connect to Stripe (how to get paid)?

Sellers need to connect their accounts to Stripe in order to accept payments for items sold in their shop.

From Monday 10th April 2023 we are upgrading from our current Stripe Connect payment integration to the new Stripe Express system.
All sellers will be unable able to accept any new sales until they re-join with Stripe Express.

This new system will enable sellers from around the world will finally be able to trade on Baphomart. Sellers will be able to accept card payments from over 135 international currencies alongside wallet payments such as Apple Pay, Google Pay & Link Wallet. We will also be offering buy now pay later payment options via Klarna (coming soon), and customers will be able to save their payment information so future purchases can be a simple click away.


From Monday 10th April – please follow this walkthrough guide below, which should take a few minutes to complete:

Please follow this simple walk-through guide to get set up.

1. Go to Dashboard–> Settings–> Payments.

Click on the “Connect with Stripe” button.

2. Next, add your mobile number and email. You will receive an SMS with a code to your mobile to confirm.

3. Choose your business type? Individual / Sole Trader, Limited Company or Partnership.
Note: Most shops would be under Individual / Sole Trader 

4. Add personal details:
Legal Name – Your First Name & Surname
Email address – Your email 
Date of Birth – Your own date of birth 
Address – Your address of residence 
Phone – personal phone number
Note: This can be changed at any time

Legal name, business email address, date of birth, home address, and personal phone number

5. Upload a scan or photograph or use your phone or webcam of your passport, driving license or a government-issued photo ID. If you are uploading a driver’s license or identity card, they may request an image of both the front and back of your ID.

Please also verify your business or home address, this is often in the form of a utility bill or bank statement to match the address.

6. Add our business details – Industry (Retail) and your website (Add your shop’s Baphomart website address here)

7. Select an account for payouts –
Currency – which currency you would like to be paid in
Country of bank account – where your bank is based
Sort Code & Account Number – enter your payment bank details
IBAN – International Bank Account Number (this will appear depending on where you are based) – Available on your Bank Statement. This is to enable international payments. If you aren’t sure check your online bank account or contact your bank.

8. Review the details carefully, and click submit.

That’s it! You are now connected!

All transactions and payments are automated from within Baphomart. However, you will have your own Stripe Express payments dashboard which can be viewed by clicking on the ‘Visit Express dashboard‘ button.

Note: If you leave the setup halfway please click on the ‘Complete Onboarding’ button to start from where you left off.

Congratulations! You are all set up and ready to sell to customers around the world.

Now, remember to set up your shipping to where you want to deliver to!

Now you are all set up for taking international orders, you will need to get your international shipping rates set up. Check out our sellers handbook to international selling for a helpful step-by-step guide. Once you get to grips with it you’ll be able to set up different rates for your preferred shipping regions around the world, at price points that work for all your products. There are plenty of shipping options available!

Can I use an existing Stripe account?

Stripe Express is a brand new integrated payment system and unfortunately won’t work with pre-existing Stripe Connect accounts. Stripe Connect is an entirely different Stripe operating system so will not work with this new setup. Our apologies for any inconvenience and pause to your service this may cause. This new system will enable far greater payment options for your customers and is a long-awaited upgrade for Baphomart. Currently, most vendors are UK based but our new system also will allow vendors from around the world to trade in their currency.

What payment options are accepted?

Sellers will be able to accept:
• Credit and debit card payments from over 135 international currencies.
• Wallet payments such as Apple Pay, Google Pay & Link Wallet.
• Buy now pay later payment options via Klarna.
+ Customers will be able to save their card payment information (securely via Stripe) so future purchases can be a simple click away.

Relevant checkout payment options will appear depending on the country your customers are based.
Apple Pay will appear for those who have installed it on Safari browsers and Google Pay for those on Chrome browsers.

Transactions will be automated from your Baphomart shop sales, directly into your Stripe Express account. From there your funds will automatically be deposited into your bank account. Transfers usually take a few working days.

How secure is Stripe?

We use our payment partner Stripe.com to directly securely manage and protect your payment methods and will never keep any of your card information on Baphomart.com. Stripe is PCI Service Provider Level 1 certified. This is the most stringent level of certification available in the payments industry. They use the best-in-class security tools and practices to maintain a high level of security. All card numbers are encrypted at rest with AES-256 and decryption keys are stored on separate machines.

Stripe Set Up FAQs

  1. How long will it take to validate my identification and utility bill? up to 24 hours
  2. How will I know if they are accepted or rejected? You will receive an email from Stripe.
  3. What if I don’t provide the details? You may be unable to receive any customer orders or payouts until your information has been verified.
  4. Why does Stripe need these details? This information helps us protect against fraud and money laundering. These requirements come from “Know Your Customer” (KYC) obligations from government regulators and our financial partners.
  5. Is there a time limit on when refunds can be processed? Refunds can be issued at any stage
  6. How do I change my Stripe account business type? It is recommended for shops to set up your Business Type as: Sole Trader/Individual. If you need to change or update this you can do so by logging via Dashboard–> Settings–> Payments -> Express Dashboard, and go to Business Settings -> Tax Details -> Type of Business
  7. What information appears in the payee’s bank statement? Depending on whether the payee is paying in full or via subscription (installments) the statement descriptor is: Baphomart.com
